The volume Die Inschriften der Elisabethkirche in Marburg (The Inscriptions of St. Elizabeth's Church in Marburg), compiled and edited by Dr. Julia Noll in collaboration with Dr. Eva-Maria Dickhaut, will be presented on October 24 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Elizabeth's Church in Marburg (Elisabethstraße 3, 35037 Marburg). It was produced as part of the academy project "Die Deutschen Inschriften" (German Inscriptions) at the Academy of Sciences and Literature in Mainz and comprehensively documents the medieval and early modern inscriptions of St. Elizabeth's Church in Marburg.

"Although there are already numerous publications about St. Elizabeth's Church, the recently published volume 'Die Inschriften der Elisabethkirche in Marburg' (The Inscriptions of St. Elizabeth's Church in Marburg) is something special because it tells the story of the church using an unusual type of source, namely inscriptions. The volume focuses on various types of inscriptions and uses them to provide interesting new insights into the history of St. Elizabeth's Church," says Julia Noll, the main editor of the volume and a research assistant in the academy project ”Die Deutschen Inschriften" (German Inscriptions).

The volume takes into account not only the inscriptions that are still preserved, but also the numerous epigraphic testimonies that have been lost today. A previously unknown collection of drawings of tombstones that are no longer preserved sheds new light on the role of St. Elizabeth's Church as a burial place for Marburg's elite and is published for the first time in the illustration section of the volume.

The medieval and early modern inscriptions of St. Elizabeth's Church in Marburg are recorded in the new publication in 185 chronologically arranged catalog numbers. The centerpiece of the collection is the golden shrine of St. Elizabeth, which once contained the relics of Landgravine Elizabeth of Thuringia, who was canonized in 1235. Another highlight is a late medieval tapestry depicting eight scenes from the biblical parable of the Prodigal Son. The collection is rounded off by objects of glass, wall, and panel painting, four bells, and various pieces of church furnishings.
