Association of Friends and Patrons of the Academy of Sciences and Literature

The Association of Friends and Patrons of the Academy of Sciences and Literature provides the Academy with both moral and financial support. The funds raised from membership fees and donations are used to support the Academy’s activities for which sufficient state funding is not available.

The Association’s Chairman is Helmut Rittgen, a retired Bundesbank director. The Deputy Chairman is Dr Stephan Kern, a barrister.

The Association’s office is located at the Academy’s General Secretariat.

The Academy Foundation | Mainz

The Academy Foundation | Mainz is a public foundation under civil law. Its purpose is to promote and foster scholarship, literature and culture. It thus provides both moral and financial support to the Academy in its work, for example by awarding scholarships and prizes or by funding projects and events.

The structure of the Academy Foundation | Mainz offers the opportunity to establish a tax-privileged, dependent foundation under its umbrella. This allows you to support a scientific or cultural cause directly and without bureaucracy, whilst permanently associating it with your name. The Hanna and Stefan Schmitz Cultural Foundation

The “Hanna and Stefan Schmitz Cultural Foundation” is a public foundation under civil law without legal rights, based in Mainz, and is administered as a dependent foundation by the “Academy Foundation | Mainz” (umbrella foundation).

The foundation’s objective is the unbureaucratic promotion of cultural activities and the preservation of cultural heritage within the context of the Academy of Sciences and Literature | Mainz’s own activities.

Kurt-Ringger-Foundation

Kurt Ringger, a scholar of Romance languages who died in 1988, named the Academy of Sciences and Literature | Mainz as his sole heir in his will. A foundation was established from his estate, which came into legal effect under the terms of its statutes dated 8 October 1996. In accordance with the deceased’s wishes, the purpose of this foundation is to promote research in Romance studies, in particular through the regular awarding of the Kurt Ringger Prize for outstanding doctoral theses or postdoctoral theses, the awarding of scholarships, and the provision of grants for research projects and workshops in Romance studies.

The Walter and Sibylle Kalkhof-Rose Foundation

The purpose of this charitable foundation is to promote and support the further education of particularly talented young academics. In doing so, all academic disciplines are given equal consideration. Furthermore, the foundation is tasked with providing both moral and financial support to the Academy of Sciences and Literature | Mainz in the fulfilment of its duties. In particular, the Foundation aims to contribute to strengthening and highlighting the visibility and presence of the Academy of Sciences and Literature | Mainz, as well as its concerns, in public life.

The Foundation achieves its objectives in particular through

  • the conceptual and financial support of projects undertaken by the Academy’s classes
  • the support of the Academy of Sciences and Literature | Mainz
  • other measures within the scope of the Foundation’s purpose

Wilhelm Lauer Foundation

The foundation, established by the geographer Wilhelm Lauer (died 23 July 2007), a member of the Academy’s Mathematical and Natural Sciences Class, is dedicated to promoting research in the earth sciences. To this end, scholarships and grants are awarded to individuals working in line with the foundation’s objectives, and subsidies are provided for publications resulting from such work; since 2009, the Wilhelm Lauer Prize has also been awarded.
