The “Mittelhochdeutsche Wörterbuch” (MWB) (Middle High German Dictionary) is a period dictionary covering High‑Middle‑German from  1050 to 1350. It covers the vocabulary and usage of the entire spectrum of German-language texts from this period, including the “Nibelungenlied”, the classic Middle High German epic and lyric poetry (Heinrich von Veldeke, Hartmann von Aue, Wolfram von Eschenbach, Gottfried von Straßburg, Walther von der Vogelweide, et al.), as well as German charters, law codes, chronicles, technical texts and the works of German-language mysticism (Meister Eckhart, Heinrich Seuse, Johannes Tauler).

The project is being carried out under the responsibility and sponsorship of the Academy of Sciences and Literature | Mainz and the Academy of Sciences in Göttingen at three work centres in Trier and Mainz (Mainz Academy) and in Göttingen (Göttingen Academy). In addition to the edition, the Mainz Academy's office in Trier is also providing the “MWB Online”, an online publication of the dictionary. It contains the keyword list, the digital archive of references and the underlying text collection, and is linked to the network of retro-digitised predecessor dictionaries available online.
