Max Reger (1873-1916) left behind a monumental oeuvre in terms of its scope, complexity, and diversity. With the exception of opera, it encompasses all genres of his time - from chamber and piano music to choruses and songs to orchestral works and choral symphonies. For a proven pioneer of musical modernism, Reger's organ works and the large number of his arrangements of works by other composers, especially Johann Sebastian Bach, are remarkable.

Umfang der Ausgabe

Geplant sind folgende, in Module (Abteilungen) gegliederte Bereiche: I. Abteilung: Sämtliche Orgelwerke – 7 Bände, II. Abteilung: Lieder und Chöre – 11 Bände sowie III. Abteilung: Bearbeitungen – 11 Bände. Jeder Band wird mit gedrucktem Kritischen Bericht sowie gleichzeitig mit in digitaler Form beigegebenem Quellenmaterial und einer digitalen Enzyklopädie erscheinen. Seit 2008 wurden 18 Bände und 52 daraus abgeleitete Einzelausgaben vorgelegt. Die digitalen Bestandteile erscheinen im Portal RWA Online unter www.reger-werkausgabe.de (Stand: JB 2024)
