Responsibilities

The main statutory responsibilities of the Staff Council:

  • Proposing measures that serve the professional, social or personal interests of employees.

  • Monitoring compliance with laws, regulations, collective agreements, service agreements, etc. that apply in favour of employees.

  • Receiving suggestions and complaints from employees and ensuring that management addresses them.

  • Cooperating with the officers responsible for equality, safety and data protection with regard to compliance with applicable laws, regulations, etc.

  • Exercising numerous rights of co-determination, participation and consultation in relation to departmental measures, particularly regarding recruitment, pay grading, transfers, dismissals, working time arrangements, workplace design and much more.

Given the characteristic staff profile of the Mainz Academy – predominantly research staff at numerous workplaces scattered across the Federal Republic – we feel it is important to point out that the Staff Council can also act on behalf of research staff in all the above-mentioned areas (albeit only upon request by those concerned) in accordance with the applicable State Staff Representation Act! This is often overlooked; so please do not hesitate to make use of this option should the need arise.
