The most important sources for Renaissance research are the thematically rich writings of the humanists. The aim of the “Indices zur Lateinischen Literatur der Renaissance” (ILLR) (Indices to Latin Literature of the Renaissance) project is to index both Latin and Volgare works by Italian, primarily Florentine, Renaissance authors between 1300 and 1600. In addition to a name index, a geographical index and an author index, the highly detailed subject index is the main tool for locating texts. Much of this literature survives only in editions from the humanist period, making it otherwise as inaccessible as an uncut book, yet it is crucial for the study of philosophy, historiography, philology, art and politics of the period.

A CD‑ROM supplement accompanies the printed index volumes; it contains both the texts of the authors covered and the ancient sources and the indices themselves, giving users complete, one‑click access to the material.
