The project is dedicated to the research and edition of music-historically significant, editorially still unexplored collections of monophonic ecclesiastical and secular music of the European Middle Ages with Latin text. Until the end of the Middle Ages, the music of Europe was determined by unison. The permanent disclosure of unanimity and the new concept of polyphonic composition are the foundation of the musical cultural uniqueness of modern Europe and at the same time condition the perception of the Middle Ages as a foreign musical culture.

Umfang der Ausgabe

Das geplante Editionskorpus umfasst circa 6000 Editionseinheiten (Gesänge oder Gesangskomplexe der Gattungen Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, Agnus, Tropen, Sequenzen, Lieder und Spiele) aus insgesamt circa 200 überwiegend handschriftlichen Quellen des 11. bis 16. Jahrhunderts englischer, normannischer, französischer, deutscher, italienischer, aquitanischer und katalanischer Herkunft. Die Ergebnisse des Vorhabens werden in erster Linie in digitaler Form zugänglich gemacht. Dies wird durch eine browserbasierte Anwendung ermöglicht, deren Neuentwicklung Teil des Vorhabens ist. Seit 2011 sind zwei Bände im Druck erschienen. Die Alpha-Version 2.0 der OnlineAusgabe mit circa 3000 Editionseinheiten wurde 2021 veröffentlicht. Bis zum Ende des Berichtsjahrs ist der Bestand auf circa 4600 angewachsen: corpus-monodicum.de (Stand: JB 2024)
