The Academy of Sciences and Literature cordially invites you to a jazz concert with Marc Copland and Daniel Schläppi in the Kalkhof-Rose concert hall on 19 January 2026 at 7 p.m. The programme will feature original compositions and jazz classics.

Marc Copland, a world-renowned pianist from New York, and Swiss bassist Daniel Schläppi met in New York in 2010. Copland has made a name for himself as a specialist in duos, playing with world jazz greats such as John Abercrombie, Gary Peacock, Dave Liebmann, Ralph Towner and Greg Osby, and in recent years has earned himself the status of a first-rate jazz celebrity. Daniel Schläppi has released 14 albums as a leader, co-leader and producer over the past 14 years, several of them in duo or drumless trio formations.

In 2012, the duo recorded their highly acclaimed debut album, which caused quite a stir among experts. Since the spectacular release of their first CD, they have played several European tours, released a second album and, as another highlight, given a concert at the Jazz Gallery in New York. This shared musical history has taken the interplay between Marc Copland and Daniel Schläppi to an even higher level.

As part of their tenth European tour, the two musicians will treat their audience to unique concert experiences with their dreamlike music full of lightness and inspiration of the moment, and present their fourth joint album. Audiences can expect "inspired togetherness" (NZZ), "emotional power" and "something very essential" (FAZ), as well as an interplay "of exhilarating intimacy" (NZZ am Sonntag).

Entry is free. If you enjoyed the concert, we would appreciate a donation. The donation box is located to the right of the entrance to the Kalkhof-Rose concert hall.

Admission tickets are required. Tickets are available here.
