The Academy of Sciences and Literature | Mainz cordially invites you to the opening discussion of the exhibition “An Infinitely Dark Legacy“ on 29 January at 6 p.m. The two curators, Prof. Dr Jens Temmen (Professor of American Studies at KU Eichstätt-Ingolstadt and alumnus of the Young Academy | Mainz) and photographer Lewis Bush, will introduce the exhibition to interested parties in English.

Contemporary space travel, which is increasingly dominated by private-sector players, raises questions about the ethical costs of scientific progress, which already shaped the origins of modern space travel in the Nazi V2 rocket programme.

British photographer Lewis Bush uses archive images and new photographs of partially forgotten rocket construction sites in Germany to remind us of the fascist roots of modern space travel. The exhibition also invites reflection on the ethical questions associated with this issue. It can be viewed on 28 January (12:00 to 16:00), 29 January (9:00 to 18:00) and 30 January (9:00 to 12:00).

The evening is an event commemorating the Memorial Day for the Victims of National Socialism in 2026.

Admission is free. Registration at this link.
