ÜBER l e b e n s KUNST ? – An Evening Event by the Class of Literature and Music

Plenary hall

23. April 2026

19:00

In the midst of our era of upheaval, of the questioning of long-held, reliable social values, of dissolution and a yet-to-be-seen reorganisation, art is receding into the background of public discourse.
The media speak in a language of a deluge of facts, the veracity of which can scarcely be verified by the individual. And whose message all too often leaves us feeling disoriented, and not infrequently fearful. It is a matter of survival. But what does that mean? From what source within us do we survive? Cellist Julius Berger, poet Angela Krauß and poet and essayist Albert von Schirnding discuss this together. Afterwards, they will give voice to their poetic and musical tones of survival – as an encouraging invitation to the audience this evening.

Julius Berger has been an integral part of the musical landscape for more than 40 years. The cellist enriches the world of music in many ways, as a performer, teacher and pioneer venturing beyond the ‘beaten track’. He has been a member of the Academy since 2009.

Angela Krauß has lived in Leipzig as a freelance writer since 1980. She has received numerous awards for her work, most recently the Saxon Literature Prize in 2024. She has been a member of the Academy since 2006.

Albert von Schirnding is a poet, storyteller, essayist and literary critic. He has received numerous awards, most recently the Dr Margrit Egnér Foundation Prize in 2017. He has been a member of the Academy since 2001.

Entry is free. Please register here.
