The Academy projects ›Regesta Imperii‹ (RI) and ›The Formation of Europe through the Overcoming of Division in the 12th Century‹ provide access to medieval sources in the form of regesta. As an independent form of source indexing, these offer summaries of the content and form of a document or historiographical report in modern language, as well as a scholarly apparatus with information on the tradition, source-critical information, research positions, and explanatory comments. As projects of basic historical research, both projects combine classic basic scientific techniques of source indexing with digital methods of processing and evaluation. Thus, regesta are not only access points to historical tradition, but also an important research data corpus for digital history.

The event is aimed at advanced master's students and doctoral candidates in history with a focus on medieval history, knowledge of Latin, and an interest in digital methods, as well as students and doctoral candidates in digital humanities who wish to gain a deeper insight into medieval history. Knowledge of English is required. The event will be held in German.

A total of 15 places are available. There is no participation fee. Travel grants are available to cover travel and accommodation costs. Depending on the requirements of the student's home university, the summer school can be credited as a course with ECTS points.

Applications with informative documents (1-2 page letter of motivation, CV, transcripts) should be sent by January 15, 2026, to: regesta-imperii@adwmainz.de.
