SOIRÉE ARCADIA: “Max Reger – Arrangement as Original”

Kalkhof-Rose-Saal der Akademie

30. April 2026

19:00

Arrangements accompanied and shaped Max Reger's artistic work throughout his life. He gave almost 300 works by other composers a new instrumentation and a new form. In their programme, Rinko Hama and Ruben Meliksetian highlight the diversity of perspectives that Reger took in doing so. These range from faithful transcriptions of the original score to free improvisation, in which the arrangement itself becomes an original work in its own right. The focus is always on the tonal modernisation and artistic appropriation of works by masters whom Reger particularly admired, above all Johann Sebastian Bach and Hugo Wolf.

The concert evening is connected to the third module of the academy project ‘Reger-Werkausgabe (RWA)’, in which Reger's arrangements are being published in eleven volumes. The project manager of the RWA, Prof. Dr. Susanne Popp, and the managing director of the Max Reger Institute Karlsruhe, Dr. Alexander Becker, will introduce Reger's arrangement practice.

Admission is free. If you enjoyed the concert, we would be grateful for a donation. The donation box is located to the right of the entrance to the Kalkhof-Rose concert hall.

Registration is required. Admission tickets will be available from 8:00 a.m. 16 April 2026 here.
