Fridays for Culture: Jan Luley "From Baltic Blues to New Orleans Music"

Kalkhof-Rose-Saal

17. April 2026

19:00

Baltic Blues – Could the blues have originated in Estonia? Jan Luley combines the soundscape of the Baltic region with the pulsating grooves of New Orleans. Works by Arvo Pärt and Luley himself meet improvisations in the “Contemporary New Orleans Style Piano”. His music builds bridges between the swamps of the Mississippi Delta and the shores of the Baltic Sea – full of energy, freedom and spontaneous creativity. The press calls him the “wizard of the keys” (Schwäbische Zeitung) and “titan on the steel strings of the grand piano” (FAZ). A concert full of vitality and emotional depth.
Jan Luley is one of Europe's most distinguished jazz pianists. He studied jazz piano in Arnhem and honed his skills with pianists in New Orleans, where he has been closely connected to the scene for more than three decades.

The concert is part of our “Fridays for Culture” series.

Admission is free. If you enjoyed the concert, we would appreciate a donation. The donation box is located to the right of the entrance to the Kalkhof-Rose-Saal.

Important note: There is usually a long waiting list for events held by the Academy in the Kalkhof-Rose concert hall. We therefore urge you to cancel in good time if you are unable to attend after confirming your participation. This is the only way we can adequately manage the waiting list. At the same time, we ask for your understanding that if you do not attend without giving prior notice, we will not be able to issue tickets to you in future.
