With the admission of 50 new members (24 women and 26 men), the Academy of Sciences and Literature | Mainz 2026's programme for promoting young talent is entering its third round. The four-year membership in the Young Academy | Mainz recognises the outstanding achievements of young researchers and literary and musical artists to date and supports them in their professional careers by integrating them into the Academy's activities.

For the third time since the funding programme was established in 2016, the Young Academy welcomes a cohort of excellent scientific and artistic members. It reflects the breadth of the Academy: the members come from 28 institutions nationwide and cover 31 disciplines. They will take up their membership at the Academy meeting in April 2026 and begin exchanging ideas with each other and with the members of the scholarly society.

"The integrative approach of our programme for promoting young talent has proven particularly successful: the members of the Young Academy are not only present at the academy meetings, but also have the same speaking rights as the established members. This equality creates ideal conditions for building an interdisciplinary network and for dialogue between different subjects and between science and art. On an equal footing, the young members actively participate in the academy's activities and enrich them in many ways," emphasises Prof. Dr. Andrea Rapp, President of the Academy of Sciences and Literature | Mainz.

The Young Academy | Mainz has been the Mainz Academy's format for promoting young talent since 2016 and has become an integral part of the Academy's institutional support. Membership offers accepted scientists, writers and musicians the opportunity to expand their network in the spirit of interdisciplinarity. There is a particular focus on the equal integration of members of the Young Academy into all of the Academy's activities. Accordingly, active participation in meetings and events, as well as exchange with members of the established scholarly society, are central components of the programme. In addition, members have the opportunity to organise their own events and develop new initiatives, particularly within the framework of interdisciplinary working groups on current, independently developed research questions.

Cooperation exists on several levels, including with the scientific institutions of the city of Mainz, the Werner Reimers Foundation in Bad Homburg and the WissKomm Academy, as well as at the European level with the DHI London, the DHI Rome, the DHI Paris and the Villa Vigoni in Italy.
