Youth Debating Competition at the Academy

Plenarsaal, Geistes- und Matheklasse der Akademie

09. February 2026

10:00 – 13:00

The event is not open to the public.

"Jugend debattiert" (Youth Debates) focuses on good debate as the "prerequisite for a vibrant democracy and successful coexistence in our diverse society", not only as a school competition, but also and above all as a training programme that around 200,000 school students can enjoy each year. This pragmatic approach, which provides young people with the tools and strategies they need to argue confidently, fairly and objectively, resonates with the WissKomm Academy and its skills training programme for science communication. We are therefore delighted to welcome the pupils of Mainz's Gymnasium Oberstadt to the academy for their school-wide competition.

The WissKomm Academy is a pilot project of the Academy of Sciences and Literature | Mainz, funded by the Ministry of Science and Health of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate. The aim is to establish a competence centre for science communication in Rhineland-Palatinate. Further information: https://wisskomm.academy/
