September 18–22, 2023, Akademie der Wissenschaften und der Literatur | Mainz

The HFR Summer School is a one-week intensive workshop for acquiring and practising the skills involved in the edition of Hittite cuneiform texts.
We start with the decipherment of cuneiform documents, learn how to create a technical drawing (‘autography’) as a documentation of the decipherment, and study how fully annotated digital editions of Hittite texts are produced on the HPM platform. We will look at methods of photography for the documentation of cuneiform tablets and also discover which additional research avenues become available by 3D scanning and the analysis of 3D models.
The Summer School is tuition free, and accommodation for participants in Mainz is provided by the HFR project. There is, however, no provision of funding for travel to and from Mainz.
The language of instruction is English. The whole HFR team will participate in the teaching of the various units; additional speakers will be invited.
Applications should include a CV and a cover letter providing information on the applicant’s knowledge of Hittite and motivation for the participation in the Summer School. Please send your application via email as one single pdf-attachment to daniel.schwemer@uni-wuerzburg.de.

All slots for participation in the HFR Summer School 2023 have been filled.
