Weber-Bro-09-Bild-1-1.jpg

The new Weber Complete Edition is oriented towards the current state of musicological editing methods, whereby it focuses more clearly on the historical aspect in addition to the critical. It presents all of Weber's musical works, including the piano reductions of his own and other composers' works as well as his arrangements of his own and other composers' works, taking into account all available sources. Even fragmentary compositions, drafts and sketches that have survived are documented in an appropriate form after thorough examination. Incerta may be published in Series X. It is planned to publish about 46 volumes of music including critical reports, 8 volumes of diaries, 10 volumes of letters and 2 volumes of writings in 10 series, as well as 5 volumes of documents and a catalogue raisonné. External volume editors are also involved in the edition. The aim of the edition is to reproduce authentic texts and versions of the works and to document the genesis of the works. The printed texts of the works are cleansed of clear spelling, copying, and printing errors and freed of all additions that only came about through subsequent interventions in the historical document that has been handed down. The various authorised versions of a work should provide information about the respective state of the author's compositional development as historically conditioned testimonies. At the same time, the chosen main source should »shine through« as clearly as possible in the edition, despite the editor's revising interventions, and the editor's interventions should be just as easily recognisable. As a historical-critical edition - i.e. by documenting the history of the work's creation and transmission in conjunction with a critical review of all available sources - the Weber-Gesamtausgabe aims to create a reliable basis both for scholarly discussion and for the faithful cultivation of Weber's music.
