Building inscription from 1460 in Babenhausen (Darmstadt - Dieburg)

Within the framework of the inscription enterprise supported by the German Academies of Sciences and Humanities and the Austrian Academy of Sciences, the Mainz Centre records and edits the post-Roman inscriptions of the federal states of Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland up to the 17th century. The aim is the complete collection, edition and commentary of surviving inscription texts as well as inscription copies.

The commentaries on each individual inscription and the summary of multi-layered results in the introductions and indexes of the edition volumes open up the significance of an inscription collection for various disciplines of history and its auxiliary sciences, philology, art history and theology. The text edition, equipped with numerous illustrations, is therefore accompanied by descriptions, translations and explanations on the appearance of the inscription carrier and its creation, on the monumental script, on persons involved, on dating and special text contents.
